Kaleia Giancini has joined the cast of the preview project. She currently works in the entertainment departments of both The Holy Land Experience and Universal Studios. She is training in Aerial Silk and various other circus arts at Orlando Circus School. She has previously worked with Baggy Pants Theatre in their productions of Godspell. And she owns Giancini Photography, specializing in weddings, entertainment photography, and portraiture.

We are going to be shooting a few scenes from the pilot as sort of a mini trailer to help us show what the series will be about. The goal is to shoot the preview and start building support. Write the rest of the season’s episodes, build a prayer support group, have an open audition. And then next year, early Spring or late Winter we will start shooting. Post in the Summer with a Fall release.

I dropped by a couple of restaurants/cafes today. Both of them agreed to let us shoot there. We only need one more location for the Preview/Demo. I hope to finalize that one on Monday.

In addition, I am continuing to hear different actors read. We are closing in on the key roles being filled. Then we need some rehearsal and some scheduling.

This thing keeps moving forward, and it’s great. I am figuring things out as we go along, and everyday I am reminded that this won’t happen unless God is in it.

Joshua Kessler has been cast in the role of Blake Goodman for our preview/demo video. He’s done both theater and video work, and we are excited to be working with him on this project. He has worked at Universal Resorts, The Holy Land Experience, and the upcoming TV Show Gamestore.

Lego Storyboarding

October 10, 2011

I am not a great artist, and my kids have some lego people. So, I wanted to create some story board for the demo video of a coupe scenes I hope to shoot soon.

I decided to set up the scene in lego world, and then use my iPhone camera to shoot the angles and shots I wanted. Didn’t work bad at all. Not perfect by any means, but close enough.

Here is a sample shot.

Basic two shot. This is from the scene where the main character meets his love interest.

Where Are We Now?

October 8, 2011

The pilot script is pretty much written.

We are hoping to meet with a couple of actors next week to see about interest and fit. If that works, we will shoot a “demo” piece of a couple of scenes. Then we will make a couple of pitches and try to drum up some support.

In the meantime I am building the social media infrastructure, and working on the story for the rest of the season.

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9 KJV

What is Peculiar? Good question.

Peculiar is a sitcom I am developing. Let me give you some history. I’ve been posting about this on my blog: scottlinkblog.com

First there was the distribution idea:

The Future of Christian TV: A TV Distribution Idea

The I started looking for show ideas. It took a while. I kept coming up with something and then throwing it out. Nothing was clicking or sticking. Then I realized that in general:

Christians Don’t Believe in Comedy

and discovered that the number top kinds of shows viewed by 18-34 year olds were comedies and reality shows. I tried to settle onto some sort of reality show, but nothing worked.

I finally came up with an idea:

My Show

It’s been a lot of work, and I never have enough spare time, but I keep making:

Forward Progress

So, after all of that, here it is in a nutshell. What is Peculiar and why am I doing it?

Christian TV: Now is the Time for Change

Peculiar is a show about a college kid trying to figure out his faith in a weird world.

Blake Goodaman was a star athlete in High School with multiple scholarship offers. After a car wreck that wasn’t his fault he found his life turned upside down without a lot of options. Now he’s staying at home, going to the only college he can afford, and trying to figure out how his new faith in Jesus Christ impacts his new life. There is no doubt, things are just plain peculiar.
