What is “Peculiar” Anyway?

October 8, 2011

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9 KJV

What is Peculiar? Good question.

Peculiar is a sitcom I am developing. Let me give you some history. I’ve been posting about this on my blog: scottlinkblog.com

First there was the distribution idea:

The Future of Christian TV: A TV Distribution Idea

The I started looking for show ideas. It took a while. I kept coming up with something and then throwing it out. Nothing was clicking or sticking. Then I realized that in general:

Christians Don’t Believe in Comedy

and discovered that the number top kinds of shows viewed by 18-34 year olds were comedies and reality shows. I tried to settle onto some sort of reality show, but nothing worked.

I finally came up with an idea:

My Show

It’s been a lot of work, and I never have enough spare time, but I keep making:

Forward Progress

So, after all of that, here it is in a nutshell. What is Peculiar and why am I doing it?

Christian TV: Now is the Time for Change

Peculiar is a show about a college kid trying to figure out his faith in a weird world.

Blake Goodaman was a star athlete in High School with multiple scholarship offers. After a car wreck that wasn’t his fault he found his life turned upside down without a lot of options. Now he’s staying at home, going to the only college he can afford, and trying to figure out how his new faith in Jesus Christ impacts his new life. There is no doubt, things are just plain peculiar.
